I had a most decent experience with a towing company. I am totally impressed.
Background: Drove to work, no problem. Came out of work and vehicle was a “crank but not start” (I think it is a fuel pump)
Called my GEICO road service. Response: “We can have our primary resonder there in about 2 hours”
Me: “Do you have a secondary company”?
Geico: “Yes, they can be there in 45 minutes”
Me: Duhhhh. “Send them, please’.
Anyway, the guy shows up and says that GEICO only pays for a tow to the nearest repair facility. (I am 15 miles from home) Nearest repair facility is 4 miles away.
He says that he can tow it to my preferred repair shop for $48 more.
So I say, just do it. When we get there, he says “Do you need a ride home”.
Me: “Yes, I would really appreciate that”.
We get there and he says “Your bill is $34”.
He says: “You seem like an everyday guy and did not give me a hard time about anything. I like that. So I discounted your rate”.
Bottom Line: Be nice to everyone who helps you. Even if you are not happy.

I may have to organize a 77 mile tow this week.

Yes, yes, and yes!
I never thought about it, but I bet tow truck drivers deal with a lot of pissed off people. I imagine dealing with somebody calm and rational is a nice change of pace.

My other has AAA. They pay for up to 75 miles. I will probably switch to them. It could make a huge difference if you are a long way from home.

He was a nice guy, too. I was not happy, but it was not his fault or his rules.

Absolutely. A lot of people have a hard time keeping that in perspective.

The Porsches have been towed 3 times this year. The 944 twice and the 911 once. Each experience has been an excellent one with each driver going above and beyond to help me out and get the cars home safely.
They don’t get paid enough for what they do for others. I tipped the last one, he towed and backed the 911 into our garage flawlessly while I had a bad migraine.

They can be talented persons. I tipped my driver for the ride home.

When the fuel pump went on my Camaro I got an AAA membership after calling 3 different towing companies and realizing an entire year of coverage was the same price as ONE tow.
I’ve used it for two tows and one lock out. They have been fantastic.

No, but you reminded me of a company around here with the slogan of:
“We don't want an arm and a leg, just your tow"

I’ve heard good things about AAA. I will check them out further today. Thanks for the recommend.

You got it! When I did it I upgraded to the “next best” package for more distance. I don’t remember the names, but check the different mileages when you look into them.
